How hard are greenhouse kits to assemble?
“Easy assembly” describes a marketing intention. Your real project includes the base, leveling, glazing, tools, people, and weather window.
Short answer
Think in four levels: light seasonal assembly, a normal weekend kit, a complex build with substantial site work, or an assembled/installed solution. The manual, parts, glazing method, foundation, and site matter more than a headline time estimate.
What makes a kit hard
Difficulty includes receiving and sorting parts, creating a level base, squaring the structure, installing panels or film, working at height, managing wind during glazing, and correcting errors. A “two-person” claim may assume a prepared site.
Use the manual as evidence
Inspect the parts list, foundation instructions, tools, panel handling, and stated crew. Look for whether the kit is one repeatable module or many custom steps. Ask what happens if a panel or connector is damaged.
When installed is better
If the buyer cannot safely build the base and enclosure, an installed quote may be the honest route. It should state delivery, foundation, anchoring, glazing, ventilation, cleanup, warranty, and site-access assumptions.
Common mistakes
- Counting only frame assembly.
- Starting glazing on a windy day.
- Assuming two people means two inexperienced people.
- Failing to reserve space for parts and ladders.
A judgment call
For a handy buyer with a prepared base, a weekend kit may be reasonable. For someone who wants a few hours and no power tools, I would look for light construction or request an installed quote.
